SKILLS AND ACTIVITIES
- Field skills: Surveying and mapping of stream systems. University (U.Vic. and Bamfield Marine Station) courses in identifying local vertebrate and invertebrate fauna. Quadrat sampling and evaluation techniques. Rigorous week-long hiking and camping trips in Saskatchewan and Vancouver Island. SCUBA diving (logged approx. 32 hours in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Caribbean). Mountain biking and horseback riding (4 years of lessons, now recreational).
- Interpersonal Skills: A capable and comfortable public speaker through experience in competitions and presentations. Good at independent and team-work situations. Interpersonal skills well developed by working with the public in the retail and service industries. Employment at high-volume businesses since 1992 has enabled me to develop good customer service skills through listening and cooperation.
- Certifications: Open Water SCUBA diving certification (1990). Advanced SCUBA diving (1998). Emergency First Aid including CPR level C (1999 certification through Red Cross and St. John’s). Marine Identification Course (1996). Class 5 Driver's license (clean driving record). Bronze Cross and Lifesaving III.
WORK EXPERIENCE

Stream Team
Full-time employment at a non-profit society dedicated to watershed cleanup and salmonid enhancement. Responsibilities are various, including physical restoration work and/or cleanup, surveying and mapping of the Craigflower drainage basin, research for website information on plant and animal identification, fish salvage, plant collection and identification. Future contracts will include salmonid tagging and brood stock collection at local hatcheries and Streamkeepers certification.

Full-time employment at a high-volume restaurant targeted to customers with brief lunch hours. Responsible for prompt, efficient and friendly service to several customers simultaneously. Involved customer service, cash handling ($200+/day), and taking telephone orders. Extensive cleaning during and at the end of each shift.

Sales Consultant
Full and part-time employment as a Sales Consultant for jewellery and home purchases. Involved customer service for in-store transactions, as well as patience and imagination in handling complaints or problems. Large numbers of customers and staff meant organisation of multiple activities. Required courteous telephone manner for catalogue sales, and multitasking with respect to customer service as well as other duties such as cleaning and simple jewellery repairs. Responsible for the cash in individual tills, involving amounts from $500 - $2000.
SUMMARY OF OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE
- Data entry for surveys conducted on social policy issues such as housing and child care.
- I volunteered at the 1997 First Nation's Festival in Victoria where I was responsible for directing visitors to sites, and for helping the artists with anything that was required.
- Responsible for five separate telephones at a busy restaurant (Romeo's Place) as well as food prep.
- I spent several years volunteering at both the Regina Humane Society and the Airport Animal Hospital (Regina, SK) as an animal worker. Duties included the care and feeding of animals, cleaning of examination rooms, and receptionist duties.
