Week 6: July 9th - 13th

This week the Gala loose ends werecleaned up, and thank you letters being sent to all volunteers and participants.

Jess was on the M3 boat on Wednesday; lots of Minke whales were seen, but the waters weren't very busy with personal craft. A few sail boats in the area were talked to and were very receptive to our ideas and regulations.

On Thursday, the crew read and practiced for their radio operator's certificates. The pamphlets and questionnaires for Rock Bay were also finished and sent to the printers; the surveying will begin next week.

On Friday we began the Downspout Disconnect program. The team went with Hugh MacKay and Todd to three houses to practice the initial surveys of the property. The houses and land were looked at to determine if disconnection is feasible; history of flooding, slope of land, and possible walk hazards were all examined. If there are no negative factors and disconnection is to occur, it was then determined what the team would need to do and bring on their next visit. All houses were very keen on the program, and all but one will be revisited for the actual disconnection.
