Log-boulder Reefs

Log-boulder reefs are a combination of boulders, cobble and LWD are constructed into a matrix, then sunk and secured into the stream channel as a reef. They provide a complex habitat structure in shallow residual pools that lack adequate fish habitat and are usually employed in medium sized stable streams. They are most successful in areas where sufficient hydraulic energy will prevent sediment infill.
